This was at Habenara, a Mexican joint in Queensbay. We decided to give it a try since my girl had not taken Mexican food at a Mexican restaurant.
This was her order...Taco with Parilla Chicken with corn. I think she found it just okay. Mexican food is meant to be eaten with hands and She had some trouble trying to make sure the filling didn't drop into the basket. I tried her order too and found it a bit bland to my liking even though the menu says the chicken was grilled with Mexican spices.
Other Half's order of Quesadillas with Rallado Chicken. The bill said shredded chicken. It's supposed to have been stewed in Mexican spices. Basically, it looked like sandwiches. Quesadillas are actually corn tortillas.
My order of Burrito with Cilantro Lime Rice and Camino Beef. The burrito was half warm and half cold when I took a bite. The rice side was warm but the other side with all the vegetables were cold. It was by far the most filling order (for the stomach) out of our 3 orders. I too had some difficulty biting into the bigger than mouth size burrito in the beginning but soon worked around it. I actually enjoyed eating it. The spicy rice and the sourish vegetables went well together. The burrito was actually very appetizing! Might go back for another version of burrito, though.
The place where the restaurant is located has quite a few other eateries as well... They've turned the area into a food haunt. There are a couple of other restaurants there.
We dropped by this place after lunch cos we were quite captivated by the name as well as the pictures... Traditional European Cake. I found out that the chimney cake (or bread) is a Hungarian street food. An interesting piece of information, though.... the land of Count Dracula is supposed to be its place of origin.... Transylvania.
This was one of the 'chimneys' I bought...Nutella Walnut. I took their Cinnamon one too. Were they nice?? Well, this is one of those times when the food looked better than it tasted. The bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Cinammon has always been one of my favourites. However, the one that I had had a rather flat taste. Plus, the cinnamon didn't smell that great. The bread tasted rather dry too. I thought the Chimney Bread with the Nutella Walnut flavour was missing the sort of smell and taste that makes fresh bread a joy to savour. The 2 'chimneys' weren't exactly cheap either. Cost more than RM10.... But there was a fun point... You get to watch your bread being baked.
They had this oven placed on the counter where you can see how they moved the chimney breads up rung by rung as they bake. It was fun to see them roll and prepare the chimneys before they are placed in the oven though. I supposed that novelty is a draw, something like watching Stickies being made. The bread would probably taste and smell nicer if they spread some butter on the inner side of the 'chimney' as it bakes. But then again... maybe some breads are meant to be eaten just plain so that we can enjoy the flavours coating it.
Oh ya! Took note of this outlet as we were walking around. According to CES 2014, this year will spend the demise of the DVD... Other forms of storage and ways of delivering media have been making their appearances. Even I, for one, have also stopped using the thumb drive now that we have cloud storage.
