On Friday night, we had another makan-makan trip. These were the streetlights against the backdrop of the setting sun. The sky was really beautiful that night... and this was to be our last Friday makan-makan with Ling and Siah for this round as they are going away for their studies. Upon arrival, the sun was just about to set. The sky was a hue of rich colours. And the tide was out. You could walk, if you are game on the mud, for a long distant and still not get to the sea. But it's all mud for as far as your eyes can see....so you'd probably get stuck. 8)
This is our makan place. It's all perched up on the edge of the riverbank. It was low tide, so no water lapping on the stilts (concrete). We were among the early diners, so the boss took our orders. Service was quite okay. He assured us that the portions would not be too big. And we made sure we didn't order stuff which were too spicy cos Lil Rainbow was with us.
As we waited for our orders, we checked out the available food. This clams are really huge!
You have your standard la-la and what we call 'helicopters'..those shells are very sharp. It is usually eaten either baked or boiled. But we didn't order it this time around.
The dishes came soon enough! This is the 'lau-jiu-heh' (mantis prawns???) cooked black pepper style. It was nice enough but not worth ordering cos this dish cost more than RM70!!! Better to eat lobster.
This is the crab dish. I used not to like eating it cos it's a really messy task. But these days every now and then, I'd crave for them. This time around, it was so-so. Reason? They were not very meaty.
This is 'kepah' cooked with garlic and ginger. It was nice but the shells are so thick. The girls say better to have the thinner-shell type since these weigh more. LOL! But a lot of truth in it. We had steamed fish which was quite forgettable and another veg dish. Overall food was okay...
Where was this place? It's Oasis in Kuala Kedah. We had to leave s soon as we finished eating to pick up the boys. The crowd was just starting to come in at that time. Looks like the place gets busier as the night progresses.
