Kedah Golden Jubilee - Float Procession

Tonight is the float procession night, one of those celebrations to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Sultan of Kedah. Initially word had it that there would be less than 10 floats but this evening when we went to the stadium, there were so many of them. And people were already gathering at the stadium. We were quite fortunate as we managed to get through before they closed the road and were pleasantly surprised by the sight that greeted us. As we wanted to watch the Olympic opening ceremony, we made a quick tour of the place. Everywhere, people were snapping away. Guess one does not see this kind of procession often. There were more than enough floats to keep us walking. Most were actually quite beautiful. Some used real flowers and plants. This one even had paddy plants!Another elaborately decorated float from the Dewan Perniagaan India.
The Dewan Perhimpunan China (I think) put this up. Quite quaint to have the girls play the traditional Chinese instruments. This one depicts the significant architecture of Malacca.
I like this one by the Tourism Board. The eagle looks nice enough, kinda majestic.
The robot belows calls out Daulat Tuanku! There were a few more floats but all in all, it was a short but fun outing. The police had closed the road as we left and whatever parking lots were filled. Later my Pizza Hut Delivery boy told me that the town was jammed packed. Lil Rainbow came back with a Hello Kitty Balloon filled with helium and was grinning from ear to ear!

Thanks for the photos. For people like me who don't like the crowd and got something on that night, this is indeed a place to visit to catch out with the procession. Thanks again.

You are welcomed... they should have put it on another night. But still many people showed up. Our local dailies did not really highlight the event though..such a pity. A lot of work was put into those floats.
