Raja Petra Kamaruddin....RPK, something of a household name these days. He speaks his mind with no fear, no holds barred...and he runs Malaysia Today website. Nearly everyone who looks for alternative websites know him. Sometimes he comes across as a bit 'braggy' but you've got to hand it to him for his courage and forthrightness.
Anyway, the charge under Section 4(1)© of the Sedition Act 1948 carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 or up to three years’ jail or both upon conviction. His article, "Let’s Send the Altantuya Murderers to Hell". And now this episode has gone international. I don't think those people want this kind of publicity. Before long, Al-Jazeera or CNN will also be picking it up. And if it does go to court on October 6, the world will continue watching. Then those very people who wanted to shut him up will be under greater scrutiny. I wonder....did they imagine that the spotlight getting brighter? Now, more people will be interested to read about it too. Free publicity....cos by splashing it over the mainstream media...people's curiousity get aroused. Probably another bad move.....a little freedom of speech may not be such a bad idea. By coming down so hard on him, somewhere, someone is wriggling in discomfort...
And guess what..bail was raised in no time. By 4 pm today the figure was around RM35K. And the campaign was called off at 5.30 pm today. The call went out for just 5K..not because he couldn't afford it....just want to show that there are people behind him...And boy! The voices were definitely loud! Ouch!
A blog about everything that interests me...family, friends, interests, country, world..
