3 by-elections at one time, a record number of aspirants in Bukit Selambau - with a jumbo sized election paper with pokok kelapa, jam loceng, basikal, telefon, bas, aeroplane, tiger head for voters to tick; it's really comical. A dead woman loses her name but her ghost seems to be appearing in other forms.
Batang Ai, until now most of us have not heard of it. But you know what? It still boils down to Iban, Malay, Chinese, Indian votes.... we still vote by race. Want Chinese votes... hot acts is one answer. Indian votes? Give out easy loans.... Dayak votes?? I must admit I'm a little ignorant what appeals to them there! Lots have been promised to the people there by BN though... new lights, streets.. the usual goodies.
So, will BN be saying more goodbyes? ... or will this be a new catch phrase?... 'by the way, BN is back!' BN says it's no big deal, especially the one in Perak. Let's see what they'll say if they win. You see, right now, even the BN camp thinks winning is an uphill battle for them, that is why they say it's a none issue. For PAS, they say the Malay votes are split... this was after all UMNO's stronghold. But I kinda like Nizar... he's got a cute smile.
What else is new? Malaysia has a new PM. The Rahman Theory has finally been elevated to Rahman Fact - TAR, Abdul Razak, Hussein Onn, Mahathir, AAB and Najib, the last alphabet to RAHMAN has finally come to fruition, and it's not Nurul Izzah (some people were hoping against all hope...aiyah!) but Najib! So maybe finally now we can put this hocus pocus behind and move on. Anyway, Tunku's name did not start with R... it is Abdul Rahman; similarly, Najib's name is Mohd Najib. So, the Rahman Theory actually has been bent to suit the names of the PMs.... or maybe the head and tail bear semblance in the use of second names.
But I think it's time we move beyond the 'one-party' system. Monopoly is not good. Look at what TM has been to us or Proton for that matter. We pay and pay, more some more, for less. The need for check and balance has been made even more crucial after the 'money-politics-is-okay' rants and raves from the last UMNO General Meeting. Crutches are crucial, some of the delegates ranted; never mind even if the crutches are haram. Haram or halal seem to be confined to just matters like food and appearance, now it seems. If you take bribes for your loyalty, it's okay. And they're demanding that history be rewritten too. In this Bolehland... everything boleh change.
The scary thing is, money-politics is considered not an evil by the General Meeting. Values are definitely skewered already! We need to balance things up... not have Dacings that give fraudulent weights. As a result, the rakyats are cheated and profits go into the pockets of the Dacings. In the last Dacing government in Selangor, it was very profitable to be the family members of the head honcho of Dacings... they got a free holiday it seemed to Morocco and France back in 2004... paid by an investment arm of the state. And the Head Honcho said they did nothing wrong! Okay! I get it, tax payers' money is their money! The bill for the Head Honcho's family fully subsidized hols - a whopping RM1 million it seemed! *faints*
So, maybe another round of by-bye elections may serve as a good reminder for the existing Dacing to overhaul themselves and get a new rhytidectomy with a new attitude. But if this by-election brings BN back onto the radar, it speaks too about the (im)maturity of our politics. My ramblings and rantings before the polls! To the people in the 2 Bukits and 1 Batang... may you choose wisely!
