Hawker Food in Alor Star

One of my favourite hawker haunts in Alor Star...

This is Timuran; along Jalan Telok Wanjah. Used to frequent this place quite often last time. What's nice here? The curry mee, according to my boy.

He says this curry me is better than the one at Cosy Cafe. It's a bit watery to my liking and also lacks that coconut milk smell. But this is supposed to be one of his favourites.

The same stall also sells 'chak-fan' or mixed rice. It used to be one of those places that sells this on this side of the town until the opposite shop started to provide some competition. The food is not bad, though.

Anyway, we like this place cos of this... outside the shop is a stall selling all this..

... and together with a bowl of curry mee to dip it in. It's nice. The 'yu-char-kway' is usually taken with porridge but eating it with curry is also a nice experience.

BTW, Timuran has a stall which sells good 'kway-teow-th'ng'. I'd rate it as one of the better ones in town.

Yours sincerely n better half were at Sweet n Cosy a few days ago, trying out your highly rated curry mee.

The ambiance is fine, by AS std. The gravy is exceedingly thick n has a sweet tinge. (The latter is minus point)The chopped up veggies is an innovation, no qualms about it but they crowd out your bowl. Do u notice that there is no chicken meat but a few shrunk up cockles. The "tau hu pok" is fine. Overall Rating : 65/100

Sounds like Anthony Bourdane, eh?

Thomas... 8) One man's meat is another's poison.... some of my friends also have an issue with the sweet tinge...

no doubt the koay teow th'ng in Timuran is one of the best in town. But there's one in the market. And old man usually sells but now sometimes the son takes over. Aunty Amelia maybe can try it out during the weekends when there's no school.

Jian: The stalls at the market or the old shops??? I've tried most of the food at the market... cannot remember the old man you mentioned.
