So, what's my kid doing, squatting right in the middle of the road, flanked by 2 multi million ringgit complexes? She was perfectly safe. We were standing right behind her all the time... was there for quite a long time and not a single vehicle came into sight... In fact not a single vehicle came by the whole time we were there.

Let me do the introduction.... on the right is the new Science Centre and opposite it is the Kompleks Akuatik. These buildings are located right behind Gunung Keriang.

The Kompleks Aquatik was built specially for the SUKMA 11th Edition in 2006. Both complexes there should easily cost in the region of RM40 million or more, I think. I don't think the Science Centre is opened to the public yet even though it has been completed for more than a year now. And the Aquatic Centre looks kinda run down. It has not been used much. In fact it was reported in 2007 that the Kedah Planning Unit did not plan for the upkeep of the Aquatic Centre. I wonder whether those brilliant minds there thought that the Aquatic Centre would just be self maintaining.... which is such a pity! Been in there during the SUKMA to see the diving event. It is a nice facility.

The one other time it made some news was in March when a 16-year-old Malay student from Keat Hwa II drowned there. Died while playing hooky..... There was no lifeguard on duty then. Now the place looks a little run down and grass is long. It is actually quite far from town and very little is done by the State to get more people or organizations to use it. It is probably bleeding the State Gahmen.

As for the Science Centre, I was ecstatic when I first heard about it. Thought it would be good for the people here.... but all there is to show for now is still just the building.

Not too far away, there seems to work going on to build some chalets of sorts. These buildings above look quaint enough, set in a place with a rustic charm. That's Gunung Keriang as the backdrop.

The signboard as usual does not state the expected date of completion! Can extend easily then...like most things these days...Malaysian rubberized time!

So will it be abandoned like this project just a stone's throw away from the Aquatic Centre and Paddy Museum? That project is an eyesore to all who pass by. And if any MOH officers were to go there to check for mosquito breeding grounds, they'll probably find plenty. Who will they fine then??
